Reading out there, you’d think that accepting a new slave is as easy as girding him a necklace and sitting down to get everything done. And it’s not like that.
The training of a new servant requires much patience and effort. By both parties.
A base of submission and willingness is presupposed, of course, but there are plots that is our job to make ours (provided we are really interested in that servant) and take the trouble to educate him to our convenience. Telling him that he is our slave and taking for granted that he’ll know how to do things because that’s his duty, only leads to failure.
And as none of them is a clone of the others, but all are different, some tend to show an overlapping reluctance to leave situations in which they feel comfortable pocketing their small parcels of freedom and others have to be slowed because they come with the urge to live it all in one day. Some learn fast, others are frustratingly slow.
But all the expenditure of energy and the work to overcome obstacles and throw barriers are well spent when changes in attitude and behavior are obvious.
